Prana Lodge, Chintsa Bay

Prana Lodge, Chintsa Bay

The unusual combination of beach and coastal bush at Prana Lodge lends itself to uninterrupted hours relaxing in the comfort of your own very private suite or going for long walks or runs along the deserted beach of Chinsta Bay.   Does this sound appealing?   Read on…. this newest discovery offers much more.

An easy drive along the Jikeleza Wild Coast Route leads you from the N2 into the village of Chinsta East.  The lush tropical entrance to Prana Lodge sets the tone for my stay.  The sounds of the real world are instantly replaced with the chatter of vervet monkeys, the call of a Kynsna Turaco and the roaring of the distant surf beyond.  My first impressions were of stylish architecture with a distinct Eastern feel, a gracious welcome and a sense of peace and tranquility.  Being led to my own personal Suite through a canopy of ancient trees gave me a wonderful sense of ‘escape’.  Here ultimate privacy prevailed, with your own plunge pool within a small walled garden area and unparalleled accommodation in terms of quality and style.   As a ‘bookworm’ and lover of music, the expansive library in the main reception area offering books, CD’s and DVD’s was an attractive touch and the magnificent art that adorned the walls caught my particular attention.

Meals are served either out on the open terrace overlooking the large glistening pool or in the intimate dining area nearby. The cuisine was excellent and the service attentive but unobtrusive.  Tempting too are the treatments offered by the young Thai Therapists at the Wellness Centre - you come away feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

I decided to take a stroll after lunch along a route that took me through the dappled foliage and down a dune onto an exquisite expanse of beach and ocean.  Being on my own, a delightful young man, with the unusual name Kitchen, decided to accompany me and through the course of our conversation I gleaned a little about the Chinsta area.   Uplifting the local community by providing work and learning opportunities is one of the core values of the owners of the Lodge and Kitchen’s particular care and interest was clear evidence of that ethic at work.

Prana is an exciting find…perfect for that special weekend away for romantics or for those looking for a few days respite from the world at large.  Perhaps you are looking for a venue to host a small intimate wedding or a special celebration? You would do well to investigate this tucked away treasure.
